Young Social Innovators: Invitation to suitably qualified teachers to assess Young Social Innovator’s Project Reports.
Young Social Innovators is a charitable organisation that develops social innovation and civic engagement among young people in second level education and Youthreach Centres. Teams of young people undertake projects and innovative actions to change the world for good. They submit a written project report to YSI as part of their evidence of learning. YSI invites suitably experienced and qualified individuals to assess these Project Reports.
Assessors’ role:
§ The assessor will evaluate the submitted Project Reports against specified assessment criteria, using YSI’s framework for social innovation. The score sheet containing assessment criteria will be provided by YSI.
§ The assessors will create a structured, summary description of each project.
§ The assessors will suggest a preliminary selection of projects to present their work at YSI’s Annual Showcase. They will also indicate why projects have been chosen to go forward.
Timeframe:
Assessors briefing meeting will take place on 25th February (candidates must be available to attend). Assessment process will take place from 5th March 2012 to 23rd March 2012. Validation of the projects selected will take place in conjunction with Young Social Innovators. The process is to be completed by 30th March 2012. YSI teams will receive feedback on line on 16th April 2012.
The main outputs of the assessment process are:
§ Assessors read each Project Report, assess and complete score sheets for each project.
§ Score sheets are completed manually and information is also entered through a web interface into the YSI database.
§ A structured, detailed summary description of each project is created and entered onto web interface.
§ Assess projects within each challenge area, suggest projects to go forward to Annual Showcase, with a reason given for each one. A list of suggested projects will be sent to YSI.
Project management and reporting
The successful candidate will work closely with YSI throughout the assessment, according to agreed milestones. Assessors will undertake a workshop with the Education Manager and Education Officer before the assessment process begins in order to understand process. In addition, YSI will engage with the assessors during and at the conclusion of the assessment process to ensure that the assessments have been completed correctly, summaries are accurate and that all tasks have been successfully completed. YSI staff will monitor the quality and consistency of marking and feedback throughout the process.
Eligibility
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in assessing work of this nature. The assessor must have:
§ A second level teaching qualification
§ Teaching experience
§ Experience of assessing state examinations essential (CSPE an advantage)
§ Experience of facilitating a Young Social Innovators project preferable
§ Ability to work to deadlines and short timeframes
§ Excellent organisational, reporting and communication skills
§ Must live in Dublin area

Renumeration
Assessors will be paid per script and will receive fee for attending briefing meeting. |
